Can I install a different WordPress theme to a WordPress hosted blog?
Question:
I would like to start a free WordPress blog on the WordPress site (not my own domain) but I don’t like the themes they provide. Can I use a downloaded theme on there? I have seen some WordPress hosted blogs with different themes, so it looks like it’s possible.
Answer:
Nope, you can’t upload anything to a WordPress.com blog. They want you to use the existing themes. If you don’t like them, they want to force you to upgrade to a paid account. Don’t do it. It costs too much.
Instead, get either iPage or WebHostingHub web hosting and install WordPress from within the control panel. Then you can upload both themes and plug-ins.
iPage uses vDeck control panel with the SimpleScripts software installer.
WebHostingHub uses cPanel control panel with the Fantastico script installer. I think WordPress runs better on a Hub account. Mine is a lot faster that it was on my iPage account. The reason I suggested iPage is because some people like a slimmer control panel without so much webmaster geeky stuff that they’ll never use.
