Can you upload videos to your WordPress website if you are using a free account?

Question:

Is it possible for me to upload videos to my WordPress website if i’m using the standard, free version of WordPress? I don’t have an account yet, but am planning on making one soon.
Thanks

Answer:

No, you can’t upload videos to your WordPress.com site. No videos, no themes and no plugins. Only images. But you can upload them to YouTube and then embed them using YouTube’s sharing feature.

If you really want to customize your WordPress blog, I suggest getting your own web hosting account before you waste any amount of time on it over at WordPress.com.

JustHost has reasonable prices and a very easy to use control panel with 1-click WordPress installation. You can even get a free domain name. You’ll also be able to add more domains to your account later on if you want to start more blogs. Unlike WordPress.com, you’ll get unlimited hosting space at JH and no restrictions on monetization. That means you can put things like Adsense on your blog or join affiliate programs to make money. WordPress.com doesn’t let you do that.

What is the best source for WordPress themes?

Question:

I want to make a website using WordPress. What is the best site for WordPress themes?

Thank you for your assistance.

Answer:

It depends on the kind of theme you want. Magazine themes are cool, but in order for them to be effective, you need to use images in your posts. I like using http://fthemes.com/demo/ Use the list to select a theme.

Have you ever tried making your own WordPress theme? Click here for a program called Artisteer. You can also make Blogger themes with it. Joomla, too, and some other CMS apps. Oh, and it’s got a built-in website designing for regular HTML sites.

Making your own theme is easy. Absolutely no coding required. In fact, you can’t even get to a code page. Artisteer also has some great themes that you can use as a starting point and then modify them however you like. Place the sidebars where you like, change the background and header image. Choose your own colors and font styles, too.

How do I implement search on my WordPress site?

Question:

Hi, I have a self-hosted WordPress website that I’d like to implement some sort of search option on. My website is one where people can find a certain product, or have their product listed. I need something that allows them to search by STATE and NAME OF PRODUCT, that would then list the products for them. Can someone who has experience tell me how I would go about finding a plug in or a theme that might already implement this? Thanks.

Answer:

WordPress has a built-in search widget that you can drag to your sidebar, but it hella sucks. It has horrible keyword matching. What you want to do is use Google’s search box. OR, if you have an Adsense account, you can create a custom search box in there. That way you can enter some keywords related to your site so your search results page displays content related ads so you can earn money on ad clicks.

See the Google custom search box in the left sidebar on this page? You can adjust the length. The default is 55. I have mine set to 22 so it fits within the sidebar.

  1. So create a Google search box.
  2. Install the Advanced Text Widget plugin. (you don’t need the pro version to do this)
  3. Drag the Advanced Text Widget into your sidebar.
  4. Paste into it the Google search box code.

If you’re running a free WordPress.com blog, then you won’t be able to install the Advanced Text Widget. I suggest getting some really cheap, but awesome web hosting so you can have your own self-hosted WordPress blog. For that I highly recommend getting a iPage account. You can get 12-months of hosting right now for only $2.95/mo. That’s only $35.40. But that sale is going to end soon and then it will go back up to $4.50/mo for a 12-month term. Oh, and you’ll get a free domain name, too.

After you sign up, just login to the iPage control panel, go to the Domains section and install WordPress. Click on the little WP logo. When it asks you where you want to install it, select your domain name WITHOUT the “www” so ppl don’t have to type www when they go to your site.

Click here to get an iPage web hosting account now before that sale expires.

How can I install WordPress without losing all the indexed pages?

Question:

I want to switch to a clean new WordPress theme for a site, but Google has indexed 2500 pages from the old site (mainly due to a calendar module creating a new page for each day). How do I ensure all those pages remain accessible for Google, without throwing up a “Page Not Found” when someone tries to access it after installing the new WordPress theme. The current site is content managed and is running pHp.

Answer:

Installing a new theme does not affect your posts and pages. Nothing will be lost. Nothing but your blog’s look will be changed. The post and page data will still be in the database.

How can I setup WordPress to allow memberships?

Question:

I would like to setup wordpress blog that would allow people to sign up to receive news letters and updates? Do I need to download wordpress to my computer? Is there any pre-made templates for this type?

Answer:

Email Marketing $19/Month!
You don’t need to download anything to your computer. All you need a self-hosted WordPress blog so you can install some plugins because the free WordPress.com blogs don’t allow you to upload any themes or plugins.

If you’re going to be sending out newsletters, the way most people do them is with an autoresponder broadcast. I use Aweber. It allows people to sign up and opt-in so you don’t get accused of spamming. Each newsletter or broadcast you send out also has an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each message. Aweber has code for forms that you can put on your blog to allow people to sign up. You don’t need any special kind of theme for it.

With WordPress, people can also sign up for your RSS feed so they are notified of your blog updates. You can also search the WordPress repository for all kinds of plugins. You can do that right from the WordPress dashboard.

I suggest getting web hosting from iPage. They’ll give you a free domain name. Just sign up and you can install WordPress right from inside the control panel. It’s super easy. If you’re not sure what to do, click here for some tutorials on how to sign up and install WordPress on iPage.

What happens to files when my WordPress space upgrade expires?

Question:

And I HAVE read wordpress support page. Just want to know, if my files over 3GB will be deleted if I will not extend my upgrade for another 12 months.

Answer:

There is no going backwards so if you don’t renew, you’re blog will no longer be active. Buying extra space on WordPress is expensive!! Why don’t you just get your own web hosting account with unlimited hosting space and bandwidth? It’s a heck of a lot cheaper and you get so much more. Plus, you’ll be able to monetize a self-hosted blog. You can’t make money with your WordPress.com blog.

I recommend getting a http://WebHostingHub.com  account. They are my favorite WordPress host. WordPress runs blazing fast on their servers and tech support is super helpful when it comes to their understanding of WordPress. Not all web hosts can say that. They also have an A+ rating with the BBB and a 90-day guarantee.

Here are instructions for transferring your existing WordPress.com blog to your own web hosting account.

How can I create a WordPress Theme without installing WordPress on my computer?

Question:

I want to create a custom WordPress theme, but I don’t have administrative access to the computer that I’m using, so I can’t install WordPress to test my theme. Is there another easy way to do it? I have photoshop, and notepad ++ both installed on my flash drive, but as far as I know there is no way to install WordPress on a flash drive.

Answer:

WordPress doesn’t get installed on a computer. It gets installed on a web hosting account. I suggest getting WebHostingHub for a WordPress host.

To make your WordPress themes, you can get a program called Artisteer. It’s the best WordPress theme maker available. The best thing is, you don’t need to write any code. Click here to download Artisteer for free.

How do i put music playing on my wordpress homepage?

Question:

I have a song [mp3 file] and i want it to automatically play when you enter my wordpress blog. On all the pages if possible but preferably just on the homepage if simpler. I’m new to wordpress so it might be tough but if anyone can confirm it’s possible and perhaps tell me how it would be greatly appreciated.

Also i installed firebug if that’s any help.

Answer:

Firebug has nothing to do with it. Why do you want to torture you visitors with music? Use the WP-Music Player plugin.

What are the most effective WordPress plugins to attract the most relevant traffic and maximize website sales?

Question:

What are the most effective WordPress plugins to attract the most relevant traffic, the most relevant traffic and maximize website sales?

I am thinking maybe:
1. RSS feed plugins,
2. Cost Per Action (CPA) plugins or code snippets,
3. Affiliate plugins and/or links

Can you provide links to the tools that you think are the best, and let me know why you think they are the best?

Answer:

Plugins can’t attract relevant traffic. You can put the Pope himself on your website and nothing will happen unless your site is properly SEO’d and you have content that people are actually looking for. RELEVANT content.
