How to encourage people to click on my WordPress entries?

I have a question

Hey guys, if people visit my wordpress blog, and they can read the whole thing without clicking on the entry, would that lower my visitor statistics?

Is there anyway to make them click on the entry in order to read it in full? There are only a few themes that feature excerpts like that.

  • There is an icon on the WordPress toolbar immediately to the left of the spellcheck icon. It’s for inserting a break. So after a couple of sentences in your post, you can click that break icon and it will insert a Read more…. type of thing.

There is also a plugin called Homepage Excerpts. I use this plugin all the time. You can use it to display only a few words like 2 sentences worth. It will make the user click a link to read the rest of the article on the single post page.

We are all aware that Google and other search engines penalize websites that contain duplicate content. Ideally, therefore, the content of your posts should be displayed fully in one location only, and that is the single post page.

Most blogs, however, display full posts on the homepage as well, and the posts remain being displayed in full even when they slip out of the homepage into page two, three and so on.

The Homepage Excerpts plugin can be used to reduce this duplicate content while keeping full posts on the homepage. Suppose you have 8 full posts on the homepage. Once you activate the plugin you will have the option to select how many posts to display fully in the homepage. The options will go from 1 up to 8. If you select 8, all your posts on the homepage will keep being displayed fully while all the other posts (the ones on page two, three, four and so on) will turn into excerpts.

You’re better off keeping a whole post up. People are lazy, and unless you’re extremely prolific and write interesting content, most will not bother to click thru. There is really no way to "make" visitors do something, unless, like I said, your content is really interesting.
